CDEV 98 - Sensory motor development and activities for young children - Stage 4 - Linda Sudak

Assessment

Assessment Methods
  • Analysis of exam, quiz, or homework items linked to specific SLOs
  • Direct observation of performances, practical exams, group work
  • Student self-assessments (such as reflective journals and surveys)
Assessment DescriptionI assess my students through a semester-long journal they complete which includes reading and visual media reflections, and examples. reflections, questions and definitions of concepts covered in classroom presentations and readings. I assess them through written observations of children including an analysis of sensory modality functioning and stages and patterns of movement.

I also assess them through their paritipation in small and all-class discussions.

The final assessment is their presentation of a sensory motor lesson plan carried out with young children, including an evaluation and analysis.
Learning OutcomesI address all outcomes.

Data SummaryThe majority of students were able to define sensory integration.

The majority of students designed and carried out developmentally appropriate sensory motor lesson plans.
Analysis SummaryA significant majority of students should be able to define sensory integration, linking sensory processing to brain organization and the adaptive response.

Grades higher than 80% on the final workshop indicate outcome achievement.
Next Steps PlannedI rewrote my course outline including some modification of my student learning outcomes. The outline will go to the curriculum committe next fall and should go into effect in January 2014.
Learning OutcomesAll.

Changes

DetailsEvery semester I make small modifications in my syllubus including introducing new readings and visual media, new assignment questions and instructions, new participatory group activities, and further/updated elaboration of my class lectures.

Tentative Future Plans

TermFall 2013
Activities
  • Revision of outcomes and assessment methods (measurements)
  • Implementation of planned changes and reassessment

Additional Highlights

My students are motivated to provide more touch and movement opprtunities to the children they teach. This is reflected in their journals and in-class commments. They appreciate that children learn through their senses, through movement, through nature, and through nurturing relationships. They appreciate the value of observations and assessments for young children's sensory motor development..
