Assessment Description• Students will do research in the media and present on their findings

• They will provide written answers in a test form to questions directly pertaining to the SLO’s

• Students will also complete another presentation and an exit interview on the topic

• Students will self-assess based on a survey that is given at the beginning and end of the semester

• Final exams will be analyzed for data as they will be comprehensive and touch on all the SLO’s
Learning Outcomes• Analyze current political discourse about the Middle East, including depictions of conflict between the West and the Middle East

• Identify and discuss views of peace activists and feminists in the Middle East

• Describe contributions to the arts and sciences from the Middle East

• Additionally students will be assessed on ALL of the SLO’s for the course through a self-assessment survey

Data SummaryThe survey showed that there was a self-reported increase in comprehension of all of the SLO’s. On average for all SLO’s students reported over 50% poor comprehension at the beginning of the semester and over 75% excellent comprehension at the end of the semester.

Next Steps PlannedI will keep doing what I am doing and I will assess the three SLO’s that had lower self-reported comprehension. I will implement a better project and give it more time that introduces the views of peace activisits and feminists in the region. This section of the course was too rushed and I think that student learning was lower than it would be if given more time. The first SLO was met, but I will continue to assess the second two.
