Assessment
Assessment Methods | Analysis of exam, quiz, or homework items linked to specific SLOs |
---|---|
Assessment Description | Analysis of coding assignments and scores including the standard Sql Server TSQL techniques required by the SLOs. This included coding of procedures and user defined functions and triggers. Test routines were also required. |

Number of Students | 13 active students at final exam |
Data Analysis
Data Shared With | Instructors of the same course (at CCSF) |

Data Sharing Methods | None |
Data Summary | The median scores on the assignments were all above 85% The median score on the coding sections of the final exam was 68% and on the multiple choice questions was 88%. |
Analysis Summary | Assignments are scored looking for analysis of the logic needed to complete the tasks and for specific techniques. This included writing test routines and creating sample test data for most assignments. I expect students to get scores 90% or above for assignment points. For the written exams, which are done as paper and pencil exams, the focus is more on logic than on specifics of syntax and I expect students to get a score of at least 70% on this part of the exam. |
Next Steps Planned | I plan to increase the use of creation of requiring test data and test plans for coding assignments and to promote ways for students to share test data and plans. Additional support is needed for students who are taking this course with a background in a different dbms. |

Changes
Details | Most assignments required the creation of test data and testing plans in addition to creating the routines specific for the assignment. The test data and plans counted for 30-50% of the score. |

More Details | Ensure that all assignment include major testing plans when appropriate. Include required online forums as part of the assignment where student post partial test plans and justifications for those plans. Tighten up the allowed test routine patterns. Provide more feedback to students re test plans. |
