Data Summary | Assessment 1: Final capstone assignment in class: Philosophy of Education. 92% of students achieved this SLO at high proficiency (#3, stated below) based on rubric proficiency scores. Assessment 2: SLO Surveys/Student Self-Assessment: Students rated their competence on three SLOs in the course on a scale of 1 to 7. With SLO 1: Describe the historical development of public education and the teaching profession in the US, especially in light of diverse race, class, gender, sexual orientation and ability perspectives, student ratings averaged a 6.27 score. With SLO 2: Distinguish elements of high quality teaching environments and relationships including safe classroom community, high expectations, purpose, motivation, intellectual challenge, engagement, practice and support, student ratings averaged 6.63. With SLO 3: Articulate a personal philosophy of education with reference to major historical and contemporary theories and philosophies of education, student ratings averaged 6.54. |
Analysis Summary | Grades on the Philosophy of Education assignment indicate outcome achievement (see point 1, above). Student self-assessments of SLO achievement were used to make changes in the planned syllabus for Fall 2013 as the course was not taught in Spring 2013. I have also researched additional resources online for use in class, including videos and readings. |
Next Steps Planned | I will implement an additional SLO assessment for SLO 1 above about 6 weeks into the semester. I will implement SLO check-in groups during the semester so we can assess where we are related to the SLOs, and where we need to focus more time. |
