Assessment DescriptionStudents were given a five-question, multiple choice assessment that addressed the SLO to be evaluated:

Examine the various motives and contributing factors (eg. Law, social networks, U.S. foreign policy) to the immigration of Latin Americans to the U.S. and how these factors impact their choice of destination.

Here are two examples of the questions used:

What Explains the migration of Salvadorians to the United States in the 1980?

a. The American Dream

b. Family Reunification

c. civil war

d. looking for jobs

Why is the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 important?

a. It eliminated the system of per-country quota

b. It created a quota system based on country of origin

c. It gave preference to Europeans over Non-Europeans

d. It created a system of limiting the number of U.S. visas

Data SummaryThe majority of students who took the pre-survey and the post-survey improved their overall answers from 38% to 60%. The average score for the pre-survey were 2 out of 5 while in the post survey 3 out of 5.
Analysis SummaryThe expectations for a successful student learning outcome was students answering 4out 5 five questions (80%) correctly . However, the highest average only reached 60% or 3 out of 5. Therefore, the SLO was not successfully achieved.
