Assessment

Assessment Methods
  • Analysis of exam, quiz, or homework items linked to specific SLOs
  • Assignments based on rubrics (such as essays, projects, and performances)
  • Student self-assessments (such as reflective journals and surveys)
  • Student satisfaction surveys
  • Capstone projects or final summative assignments
Assessment DescriptionThe Final Action Plan, Reflections and Choice Project were mapped to a rubric naming 6 SLOs to assess student mastery of those SLOs and any patterns (e.g. if students did not consistently master one specific SLO, etc.)

Data Sharing Methods

Face-to-face meetings

Data Summary21 of 24 Students demonstrated proficiency or high proficiency on 3-5 SLOs.

19/24 students rated their self-assessment at 6 or 7 (mostly 7s). Two students included one 5 on a 7-point scale and three students indicated 4s.
Analysis SummaryA significant majority of students should be able to demonstrate proficiency or high proficiency on 3-6 SLOs through completion of these three assignments. 21 of 24 students met this goal.

In terms of self-assessments, the students overall gave very glowing feedback and feel very competent and well-equippe3d to address the needs of LGBT families in ECE and other educational settings. The SLOs need to be expanded from only ECE settings to other educational and health settings.
Next Steps PlannedNext Spring I will add an SLO to each assignment to help students make the connection and implement SLO activities like SLO bingo in class. I will use the rubric throughout the semester to note when students demonstrate proficiency in the various SLOs throughout the class, including group work, in-class work and assignments.

I will also make changes to the official outline as soon as that is possible, and perhaps combine or refine course SLOs (see above).
