Assessment Description | Used following rubric to asses improvement and mastering of File management skills. Project 2 is the second project of 4. It is a 60 second public service announcement. Students interview a subject and edit the interview to 60 seconds, add music and or sound effects for possible airing on the College radio station. Project 4 is a collimating project where students recreate the sound for a 90 second clip of the movie Citizen Kane staring Orson Wells. I hope to see much improvement between the average scores from project 1 to 4. Data Summary | Results were as expected: File management skills as assessed via the above rubric were only slightly improved from Project 2 to Project 4. Two criteria improved (3.37 to 3.67 for Basic file management and 3.52 to 3.65 for ability to follow directions) However one criteria, Saving and Mixdown actually suffered from P2 to P4: 4.05 to 3.85. I believe the lack of strong improvement is scores is because of two main factors: 1. Project 2 took too long to grade and the students had already begun project 4 before they received feedback from the instructor. Projec 3 is an in-class project that happens quite quickly and project 2 has a long period of completion because students are just learning the software. So P2 and P4 overlap. 2. The directions and skills needed for the Mixdown of P4 are slightly different than for P2. |
Analysis Summary | Students have achieved proficiency if the class average was 4 out of 5 for each criteria. |
Next Steps Planned | Next semester I will re arrange syllabus so that P2 can be fully graded and students can learn their mistakes before making the same ones on P4. I will be more clear on step by step instructions for mixing down. I will try to simplify the instructions over all so students can see the most important skills needed. |
Learning Outcomes | B. Demonstrate competent operation of common audio equipment. |
Changes
Details | This semester (Spring 13) I continued the same microphone demonstration as last semester in order to continue to improve upon last semester's assessment on microphones. It was successful again. I haven't made any changes yet for this assessment because it was completed until after the semester was over. |

Learning Outcomes | The one I assessed last semester. |
