Assessment Methods

MethodsThe two instructors of the four sections of this course assessed Outcomes E (Recognize symmetric charge distributions and calculate the electric field due to such distributions using symmetry arguments and Gauss' Law.) and F (Recognize symmetric current distributions and calculate the magnetic field due to such distributions using symmetry arguments and Ampere's Law.) by asking students questions that involve their recognizing symmetry in a given source distribution for fields. We ask them to identify where in space the field value has the same magnitude, direction, or both magnitude and direction.

Future Plans

TermSpring 2014
ActivitiesRevision of outcomes and assessment methods (measurements), Assessment (measurement) of outcomes, Analysis and discussion of assessment data and next steps, Implementation of planned changes and reassessment
DetailsWe have to analyze data associated with our assessments given during this past semester. We'll determine if we indeed have a good common method of assessing Outcomes E and F. If we determine that we do have good assessments then we'll try to understand what changes we should implement in our instruction for this course.
