Data SummaryWe completed the pre and post service assessments with 45 clients receiving individual or couples personal counseling so far in Spring 2013. When looking at the average change, we found that students exhibited a positive change. For example, in answering the question, “I feel that I am not doing well at school or in other daily activities,” 26 of the 45 students after 2-8 sessions, reported the statement was true less of the time than when they came in for counseling. 16 of the students reported no change and 1 student reported it was true more of the time. (The one student who reported a negative change in this area reported a positive change in 25 of the other 30 areas and no change in the remaining 4 areas.)

Of the 45 clients assessed in the 30 areas of our assessment tool there were 1350 opportunities for change to happen. We found that 48% of the possible areas changed in a positive direction, 42% did not change, and 10% changed in a negative direction. It should be noted that 2 of the 30 areas assessed that had a high neutral score were areas that were non-problematic for the clients to begin with.
Data AnalysisIn order to effectively analyze the results we will need to come up with clear benchmarks to be reached next semester. For example, looking for at least one point change on the likert scale in the direction of improvement in one or more areas of concern as indicated on the pre-assessment tool.
