Assessment Description | We mapped program outcomes to existing course-level assessments. We conducted pre- and post- surveys with both knowledge and attitudinal elements in ALL course and sections. They were administered at the start of the course, the second in the last week. This semester we offered 37 sections of Politcal Science 1 (estimated 1200 students), and one section each of POLS 2,3, 5,18 and 45, with between 45 and 50 students each. POLS41 "Independent Studies in Political Science" is a variable topics independent study class and will not be assessed. |
Learning Outcomes | Learning Outcome 1: Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of American political principles. Learning Outcome 2: Analyze and critique current political topics and issues. Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate an understanding of the forms and processes of political participation at the local, state, national and/or international levels. Learning Outcome 4: Evaluate the structure and functions of a variety of other nations’ political systems and the international system. Learning Outcome 5: Analyze different political theories, including liberalism and conservatism. Learning Outcome 6: Analyze the historical and philosophical foundations of the United States and California constitutions. Learning Outcome 7: Evaluate information utilizing appropriate social sciences methodologies and approaches, including the use of primary sources. Assessment Details | We will review and analyze the data gathered in the Spring 2013. We will hold meetings both as a discipline, and more focused meetings by course instructor. Some course are not offered in the Fall and the Spring and discussion of those may need to wait until appropriate. |
