Tentative Future Assessment Plans

Assessment TermSpring 2014
Assessment Activities
  • Revision of outcomes and assessment methods (measurements)
  • Assessment (measurement) of outcomes
  • Analysis and discussion of assessment data and next steps
  • Implementation of planned changes and reassessment
Assessment DetailsSince this was the first time I taught Phot 81B, analysis and discussions with the previous instructor, our department chair, Bob Nishihira, of what should be assessed in that class, was important. We both agreed that we needed to focus on the assessment of SLOs A and C from the course outline. I will be modifying the assignment handouts to include more information pertaining to the expectation for each assignment, and I will also provide more visual examples of what each assignment final results should look like. This should allow the students to learn in more detail, the effects of each process, and how these methods would benefit them in their own final image making.

ILO Alignment and Assessment Plans

I.A. Use reason and creativity...No answer
I.B. Apply diverse viewpoints...The Photography Department Faculty have agreed on a system to continually assess and improve our teaching outcomes. Through the process of engage-revise-assess department has developed a flexible form, which allows each instructor to use various projects in their Student Learning Outcomes, while at the same time directly assessing a student learning objective in the course outline. The data is collected each flex day before the new semester, reviewed and discussed as it relates to curriculum development and program review. The data and projects are shared amongst faculty who also may compare and contrast teaching ruberics, paradigms and methodologies. In the Spring ’12, the faculty, less familiar with the SLO process gave a series of surveys to their classes to help form the revised course SLOs as they exist today.
I.C. Locate, retrieve, and evaluate information...No answer
Fall 2013 ILO Assessment PlansYes we plan to assess one of the above-mapped SLOs in Fall 2013.

Additional Highlights

The students engagement and learning of the material that is being taught in the Beginning Photography course Phot 51, seems to have been a direct result of the shared faculty assessment for that class. The ideas/suggestions that we have all brought to the table to more effectively achieve student learning outcomes that provide the students with strong foundation in photography, has resulted in a growing number of students within the department who follow through with the program, and continue taking more photography classes.
