Assessment Description | Does a "3" in leadership on the CPPD internship form as graded by the preceptor reflect a successful team lead as defined by EMS education standards? We confirmed as last year that our final exam is predictive of the liklihood of first time pass rate on the NREMT licensing exam. |
Learning Outcomes | Upon graduation, the graduate will demonstrate the technical proficiency in all of the skills necessary to fulfill the role of entry level paramedic. Upon graduation the graduate will demonstrate preparedness to pass the NREMT paramedic level cognitive and psychomotor exam. |

Data Summary | Students who receive 90% and above on the program final exam are 100% likely to pass the NREMT licensing exam on the first attempt. Students who receive 83-89% are 75% likely; and students who receive 75-82% are 49% likely. Preceptors agree that a "3" in leadership represents a successful performance as team leader; however, the CPPD felt that the forms should be explicit rather than interpreted. We agree. |
Data Analysis | The final exam is predictive of passing the NREMT paramedic exam on the first attempt. CPPD forms more explicitly state "successful team leader" on the intern form as of March 2013. |
Next Steps Planned | Students who receive lower than 89% on the final exam will be offered additional resources such as NREMT practice questions to prepare for the licensing exam and improve first time pass rate. CPPD forms combined with the new FISDAP database should improve data capture of numbers of successful team leads by interns. |
