Assessment DescriptionTest questions covered the scope of practice of a pharmacy technician, use of accepted resourse material for drug selection, formulation of drug preparations, prescription processing, delivery methods of pharmaceuticals, compounding techniques and chemotherapeutic admixtures. Students also complete a clinical externship in a community based or institutional pharmacy.

Data Summary82% of the students responded correctly to test questions covering subject areas, such as: law and ethics, scheduled drugs, adverse reactions and contraindications, dosage, and method of delivery. All students enrolled in the PHTC 103 and 104 classes passed with a grade of 70% or higher for didactic and clinical requirements.
Data AnalysisStudents attended their clinical externship for the number of hours required for the PHTC 104 class. All students scored at the level of proficiency in demonstration of clinical skills and customer service during their externship. Students demonstrated the administrative and

clinical skills required for employment as an entry level pharmacy technician.
Next Steps Planned

Steps to modify the program are centered around the changes expected because of the Affordable Care Act. As the ACA becomes operational, this program will adjust accordingly.

Assessment DetailsContinue to monitor the number of students who apply for a license as a Pharmacy Technician to the California State Board of Pharmacy. Continue to monitor the pass rate (currently 100%) on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board National examination.

Additional Highlights

The Program SLO's have been met for the Pharmacy Technician Program for 10+ years. All students who have applied and sat for the appropriate licensure as a Pharmacy Technician have passed the examination. In addition, students in this Program who enter with a BS/BA degree, use this class to secure foundation knowledge and skills before applying to four-years schools of pharmacy.
