Assessment DescriptionWe completed work on Course Outlines from Humanities 8, 12, 25, 41B, and 48 and have submitted them for review by Campus Curriculum. Hum 11 and 41A are nearly finished -- certainly their SLOs are revised.

Humanities 8 underwent common-question assessment. We measured students' ability to relate a passage from sacred scripture to a major theme (in this case, the concept of shirk to the Qur'an passage 2:136).
Learning OutcomesFor the courses with revised outlines, ALL. For Humanities 8, it was SLO B.

Data SummaryCompleting the course outlines involved reviewing the work done on them that dates back to 2010. The data was a lot of self-assessment and regular discussion of pedagogy and goals for the courses.

We also went over data collected in Fall 2012 for Hum 7 and 20. Both sets were based on common question data.
Data AnalysisFor Hum 7, the average response accuracy of 83.2% shows that students were largely able to go past memorizing facts to connecting them to concepts.

For Hum 20, the average response accuracy of 85.8% shows that students were largely able to go past memorizing characteristics of neighborhoods to comparing and contrasting them.
Next Steps Planned

For both Hum 7 and 20, we were happy with the results of assessment and did not see a need for major changes, although we thought emphasizing the Learning Outcomes to students in class would be helpful.-

Changes

Details

The revision of almost all of our SLOs (except for Hum 7 and 20) were finally or almost finalized (in the case of Hum 11 and 41A). We began including SLOs in our syllabuses, and reaped the benefits of our exchanges over the questions raised by the process of revising the SLOs.

Assessment TermFall 2013
Assessment Activities
  • Assessment (measurement) of outcomes
  • Analysis and discussion of assessment data and next steps
Assessment DetailsAll active classes for Fall 2013 will undergo common-question assessments. We know these will be a set of Greek mythology identifications for Hum 11. The rest are in development.
