Stage 3

Assessment Activities

Assessment Methods
  • Quizzes, exams, or homework items linked to specific learning outcomes
  • Assignments based on rubrics (such as essays, projects, and performances)
  • Direct observation of performances, practical exams, group work
  • Pre & post surveys or exams
  • Classroom response systems (such as iClickers or computers)
Assessment DescriptionAssessment of the PSLO's relies heavily on the established aggregate course SLO assessments as indicated in the Program map (which is available on the Department Assessment SLO webpage. In the biology department assessment of the program focuses heavily on the course assessments integrated into the Bio 100A & B series of classes which are the only required courses for the program that reside within the biology department.

In addition the department has been gathering data on series completion and flow rate for students going through the 100A & B series. This data is in progress as it will require more than one year to asses a cohort.

Next Steps Planned

The Department is continuing in its efforts to assess why despite moving a significant amount of students through the majors classes each semester only a handful of degrees have been awarded. Much of this analysis depends on timely reporting of current year degree/ certificate awards. This data is still pending from the college.
