Data SummarySLO 1: 100% of students in DSPS S online class met the criteria in rubric of proficient or accomplished on short-term goal assignment.

SLO 2: 60% of students remaining in the online class met the criteria in rubric on the learning styles assignment (those who did not meet the criteria did NOT do the assignment)
Analysis SummaryCriteria for SLO analysis:

Student achieved each outcome if they met the criteria of Proficient (level 3) or Accomplished

(level 4)as outlined in the SLO course Rubric .
Next Steps PlannedTHe major issues affecting success in my online class are issues of retention of students and continued completion of work over the 9 weeks of the course. Online classes have a high attrition rate. My students are often not prepared for online or college work in addition to having lives with ongoing home stress and crisis.

I plan to work on these issues by adding a prerequisite to the class to ensure basic skills needed are in place at the start of the class and to work on attendance issues with the financial aid office and DSPS counselors. Timeline: by October, 2013

Changes

DetailsI refined assignment directions so all instructions presented in the online text were clearly and simply stated step by step.

I updated my face-to-face Orientation "contract" to clearly state the course expectations.
Learning OutcomesOutcome to SLO #1 was improved with better success rate.

Outcome to SLO#2 was not affected or improved because of the attrition rate of students participating in the class. Those who did not succeed did not participate or do the last assignments.

Tentative Future Plans

TermFall 2013
Activities
  • Revision of outcomes and assessment methods (measurements)
  • Assessment (measurement) of outcomes
  • Implementation of planned changes and reassessment
More DetailsTHis is answered in the earlier question. The main plan for Fall, 2013 activities is to possibly revise one of the outcomes and implement changes and addition of a prerequisite and attendance policy to see if that will affect and improve overall course outcomes.

Additional Highlights

Positive outcome: the positive outcome of this exercise is to address what is working and not working in a course. In my course, prerequisite computer skills and ability to stick with an online class to result in completion of the class have become significant issues.
