COMP 9958 - Photoshop Elements II - Stage 1 - Marilyn McNeal

Assessment

Assessment Methods
  • Analysis of exam, quiz, or homework items linked to specific SLOs
  • Assignments based on rubrics (such as essays, projects, and performances)
  • Direct observation of performances, practical exams, group work
Assessment DescriptionI asked students to apply five different filters from three different filter categories and then show the results and discuss with their neighbor.

I show a finished example of a piece that employs techniques we will learn, then I demonstrate from start to finish how to employ the technique, then we go through the process step-by-step together as a class, then the students are asked to repeat the steps on their own while I walk around and answer questions. Then we reconvene as a group and I discuss some of the questions / issues that were raised and ask to see if there are additional questions, ideas or comments.

Data Sharing Methods

Face-to-face meetings

Data SummaryThe majority of students were able to correctly complete advanced manipulations of images as instructed in class.
Analysis SummaryStudents have achieved the outcome if they can complete each process in the same order as instructed or in less steps with the correct outcome.
Next Steps PlannedAfter the students have completed the assignment, I will review how to complete the task in less steps than the initially performed procedure. I will discuss the shortcut in more detail and explain why the same outcome can be achieved.

I will also provide a more detailed explanation of my teaching methodology in the course syllabus.

Changes

DetailsA new assessment method was implemented that required the students to show their work to their neighbor and get feedback and questions. I will be using Google Forms so that I can administer short multiple choice based questions and questions based on short written answers. I will also provide clear written instructions on how to save work to a networked computer so that I can review the work later and show work to the class.

Additional Highlights

Students seem excited about having more structure and accountability. It gives them something clear to strive for and a way to measure progress for themselves.
