Assessment Description | I looked at student work during each class and assigned research projects. One project was to complete an internet search of several HTML page elements to see what properties the related tags could carry. Another project involved searching online for CSS border properties. I asked students to work together to complete in class assignments. For example, I showed them how to add an image to the webpage and then asked them to work in pairs to add a second and third image to the same page. |

Data Analysis
Data Shared With | Instructors of the same course (at CCSF) |
---|---|
Data Sharing Methods | Face-to-face meetings |
Data Summary | At least 50% of the students had difficulty with file and folder management and had to be assisted one-on-one for at least two classes in a row. The majority of the students were are to successfully create page links and tables for structuring page layout. |
Analysis Summary | The completion of a two page website laid out with tables and including a banner, three images and navigation indicated outcome achievement. |
Next Steps Planned | For Fall 2013, I have created a new handout that explains file and folder management in more detail. I have also previewed several instructional videos that discuss this topic and I will choose two to show during class. This subject matter will be addressed in the first two classes. |
Learning Outcomes | Outcome b) Define and Manage Files and Folders |
Changes
Details | I introduced several new activities to improve student understanding of the subject matter. An example: I asked students to do a critique of their neighbor's webpage based on layout, color scheme, effectiveness of images and overall readability. I also discuss CSS in great detail showing students how to use it to control the document, images, text and links. |
