Data Summary | Per Fall 2012 report, 775 students took the DRP T4 test at the beginning of the semester, and 491 took the DRP U4 test at the end. The mean score on the DRP T4 was 50.04 The mean score on the DRP U4 was 52.42 |
Analysis Summary | We looked at the data and discovered that our students were not consistently scoring at the level the SLO on the course outline stipulated: "(Advanced Degrees of Reading Power readability score of 58 or above)." Upon reviewing the data from the makers of the DRP, this level is not appropriate for English 93. A score of 58 is the recommended level for students entering English 1A. The level for exiting 93 should be a score of 53. We assume that this was a typo in the course outline of record. As we discovered, the mean score upon exit was extremely close to 53 (52.42). |
Next Steps Planned | We plan to change the score in the reading SLO when the course outline comes up for revision. As per a conversation with the Dean of Instruction, we can unofficially spread the word to the English 93 instructors that this is a typo. |
Learning Outcomes | Same as above: B. Show ability to comprehend shorter critical essays and articles as well as longer, more sustained non-fiction works (Advanced Degrees of Reading Power readability score of 58 or above). |

More Details | Instructors who teach Tuesday/Thursday sections of 93 and some night sections will be administering the DRP T4 and U4 to provide us with entry/exit data. We want to see how students perform under similar test-taking conditions. |
