( 20 X 20 = a total of 400 cards) Upon completion there will be a total of 400 cards for the class. The project is printing on a press sheet that is 8.50 inches X 11 inches. The press sheets are being cut from a parent sheet that measures 23 inches X 35 inches. This project will require 2 ink colors to be printed along with 1 crease to aid in folding. Please allow for 20% spoilage for each press run. • How many press sheets are cut from each parent sheet? • How many parent sheets are needed to complete this project? |

Data Summary | 47% of the students were successful with question #9 from the final exam. |
Analysis Summary | I used question #9 from the final exam to evaluate the outcome of this SLO. The question required students to use simple math functions; addition, division, multiplication and percentages to calculate the amount of stock needed to successfully print a project. I have noticed that students have an anxiety when questions or problems require the use of math to solve. This semester 47% of the class was able to successfully answer both parts of the question correctly, last semester only 44% were successful. 33% of the class was able to respond correctly to (1) of the (2) parts of the question, while last year 38% were able to respond with 1 out of the 2. The remaining students in the class that were unable to correctly calculate or did not attempt the question totaled 19%, no change from last semester. Overall I do not see a significant change in the results. |
Next Steps Planned | Just observing students anxiety in the classroom when math problems are presented, it may be an indication of a basic learning skill that has not been developed. With an average of 45.5% of the students being successful with this SLO, this may be acceptable since very few of the students taking this class are actively seeking opportunities in print production, but are taking this course as an enrichment or elective working on their educational goals. With the changes in our department from Graphic Communications to Visual Media Design maybe this SLO needs to be changed. The course outline may be in need of a revision with new learning outcomes addressed. This should be discussed at the departmental levels and looked into with Spring 2014 for course revision. |

Changes
Details | During the 10 class meetings for this course this subject, with sample instruction was covered three or more times during the lecture portion of the class, followed up with a take home assignment, returning the assignment with correction and comments. I had hoped that with the additional time spent on this SLO the results would have increased from the previous semester. |
