Data SummaryMore students were able to grasp the cello fingerboard layout more quickly.
Analysis SummaryClass discussion revealed better understanding of the layout of the cello (if not yet better playing) . Playing improvement should slowly develop from this changed beginning.
Next Steps PlannedAll beginners will have more detailed, technical information about the instrument; this will reap rewards as the students develop and run into the walls that are certain to come -- a life-jacket.

More DetailsWe will try to keep the students aware of where they are in the process of learning, letting them know that nothing is easy with this instrument, that progress can be painfully slow at times, that snakes are in their paths but can be overcome. Knowing all this promotes confidence and help students get past the inevitable doldrums.
