Data Summary80 % of students were observed and stated that they could use a browser and search engine and that they understood social media. The remaining 20% were able to complete 80% of the assessment criteria.

None of the students were interested in using social media, largely because of privacy issues.
Analysis SummaryStudents achieved the outcome if they showed that they could properly use a browser and a search engine. The use of social media could not be ascertained because of the lack of interest by the students in using it.
Next Steps PlannedGiven the success of learning how to use one browser and search engine, I will introduce additional browsers and search engines. I will introduce the topic online privacy and teach students how to ensure it.

I will also: continue to review topics as tested in the criteria often; ask that students continually demonstrate understanding of concepts to reinforce newly learned skills; build the lessons to include re-demonstration of the previous lesson before presenting new topics; repeat directions and practice every class; and create new assignments to better clarify computer terms that will make using search engines and browsers easier.

This will be done in Fall 2013.
Learning OutcomesThe outcome that students will be able to use a browser, search engine and social media.

Implementation of planned changes and reassessment

More DetailsI will update the course outline to revise the SLO. Given the success of learning how to use one browser and search engine, I will introduce additional browsers and search engines. I will introduce the topic online privacy and teach students how to ensure it. During the semester, I will observe students' ability to learn how to use more than one search engine and browser. In addition, I will assess whether the lesson on privacy changed attitudes about using social media. I will conduct an end-of-the semester self-assessment to ascertain each students assessment of their ability to apply these skills.
