Assessment DescriptionStudents worked in groups on coding projects. They utilized the Encoder to assign codes to various cases include inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, skilled nuring, and physician office. Paper and electronic charts were used.

Students were tested on theory and knowledge of the coding guidelines, and the proper sequencing of codes.

More DetailsHIT 73B will be revised to accommodate the new coding system of ICD-10-CM and PCS going into effect on 10/1/2014. A new course outline will be submitted for approval with the required changes for the new coding system.
