  • Student self-assessments (such as reflective journals and surveys)
  • Student satisfaction surveys
Assessment Description• Only one section of BSEN 70 was offered in Spring 2013, and students' grades were analyzed to determine the percentage of those demonstrating proficiency on exams and homework assignments with a score of 70 percent or higher.

• A revised student self-assessment/satisfaction survey was administered at the end of the Spring 2013 semester to provide students with the opportunity to assess their business English skills, to evaluate their satisfaction with the BSEN 70 course, and to provide their suggestions for its improvement.
Learning Outcomes• Analyze sentences and apply the principles of correct sentence structure.

• Distinguish between correct and incorrect punctuation and demonstrate this understanding by punctuating sentences correctly.

• Apply rules for proper capitalization, number usage, and abbreviation usage.

• Compose clear, concise, correct sentences in well-organized paragraphs and compositions.

• Proofread and edit written material using proofreading marks to identify and correct errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Analysis SummaryA 70 percent (or higher) course pass rate indicates outcome achievement, and an 80 percent (or higher) satisfaction rate (students who found the course beneficial) indicates outcome achievement.
Next Steps PlannedThe instructors teaching the two sections of BSEN 70 will both assign the same writing assignment in the face-to-face class and in the online class, and they will meet to compare the application of the grading rubric to the students' papers. A 75 percent (or higher) average assignment score will indicate outcome achievement.

The BSEN 70 self-assessment/satisfaction survey has been revised again slightly and will be administered during the week of December 2, 2013. Through the survey, students will be asked to evaluate the content of the class and to provide suggestions for improvements to the class. Instructors will consider this feedback when planning the following semester's assignments and when updating the course outline.
