Data SummaryThe professor assessed student knowledge of and confidence with 14 skills that students will acquire and develop through participation in the semester project. A survey was administered before the semester project was assigned to assess student confidence with the skills and at the completion of the semester project. The 3-point scale ranged from not confident to very confident. Pretest data display the majority of students lack confidence in all 14 skills. On the other hand, post test data display that 98% of the students moved from not confident to very confident in both knowledge of and confidence with the 14 skills.
Analysis SummaryThe SLO is to raise student confidence through identifying and applying each of the 14 skills while they participated within the many stages of the semester project. After participating in the final semester project, the majority of the students self reported a shift from not confident to confident in both knowledge of and utilization of the skill. The instructor observed student interactions within group activities and indicated on a rubric the frequency and type of skill utilization.
Next Steps PlannedData from both the pre and post surveys were assessed and will be used to strengthen the learning opportunities for students to develop each of the 14 skills.

Additional Highlights

Outcomes assessment has allowed me to strategically plan class interactions to facilitate student acquisition of and utilization of identified skills. When I present results of the assessments to students, they increase in both their understanding of outcomes assessment but also in vocabulary to describe what they learned throughout the course.
