Learning Outcomes | A. Implement evidence-based psychosocial nursing interventions (including therapeutic communication,psychotropic agents, somatic therapies and milieu therapy) for the mentally ill. B. Demonstrate the ability to apply evidence-based knowledge of mental illness and normal psychosocial development to the nursing process. C. Select and transfer evidence-based knowledge of appropriate community resources to persons with mental illness and their significant others. D. Transfer evidence-based knowledge of safety and other fundamentals of nursing to the effective care of persons with mental illness. E. Demonstrate the ability to accurately analyze formal nursing research and educate other nurses about the implications of their findings. G. Demonstrate therapeutic communication skills with clients and significant others in the health care setting. |

Data Summary | • Quiz/exam data demonstrated 89+% average for all students • We added one hospital day by omitting the day we had been spending at a non-acute facility. Student surveys indicated a continued desire for more hospital experience; they also indicated continue student concern that not all clinical areas equally prepare students for clinical practice, especially concerning medication administration • JPC clinical rotations were non-problematic |
Analysis Summary | 1. Students should be able to achieve 85% or higher on quizzes & exams 2. Students should spend as much clinical time in acute care facilities as possible 3. The new JPC guidelines are effective. |
Next Steps Planned | FOR FALL 2013: 1. Work with two of our clinical facilities to try to increase medication administration opportunities 2. Develop more clarity in guidelines for major written assignments 3. Continue to review and modify quizzes/exams for professional relevance (Ongoing in a dynamic field like nursing) |
