Data Summary | We found that the SLO was impractical to measure. Out of the 20 student poems reviewed, it seemed that 60% were not using very much trite language, but were using fairly effective figures of speech with some attention to the texture and rhythm of language in their final poems. |
---|
Analysis Summary | 60% of students in the sample group met the SLO, but we found that more were likely to meet the SLO if the SLO were revised to reflect a single, measurable outcome. |
---|
Next Steps Planned | We realized it was better to rewrite the SLOs so as to separate out the various goals and make sure that said goals were measurable. Moreover, this course was being offered simultaneously with English 35C and we found that the learning outcomes needed to reflect a progression from one level to the next.
We decided that the outline for this course needed to be revised extensively as a result of our assessment experience. All the SLOs were revised to focus on measurable outcomes. We also revised content, teaching methodology and literature for this course. |
