Assessment

Assessment Methods
  • Analysis of exam, quiz, or homework items linked to specific SLOs
  • Assignments based on rubrics (such as essays, projects, and performances)
Assessment DescriptionBoth SLOs were assessed using a rubric to determine level of success, if any.

Data Analysis

Data Shared With
  • Instructors of the same course (at CCSF)
  • Faculty and staff within our department
  • Students
Data Sharing Methods
  • Face-to-face meetings
  • Email
  • Shared document files
Data SummarySLO1: 41 students scored a 3 indicating they used elements well. 9 students scored a 2 indicating they used elements poorly, and 2 students scored a 1 indicating they did not use the elements correctly.

SLO2: Three gestalt principles were assessed with a pass or fail question. 45 passed the proximity question, 40 passed the closure question, 39 passed the figure-ground question.
Analysis SummarySLO1: The sucess rate was 79%, which is below the 85% achievement rate we were looking for.

SLO2: 85% of students understood proximity, but only 77% and 75% understood the principles of closure and figure-ground/
Next Steps PlannedBoth SLOs will need to be re-assessed.

SLO1 needs to be assessed with a different assignment, as there were other restrictions on the assignment which made assessment more complicated and harder to interpret than it should have been for SLO purposes.

SLO2 needs to be assessed again as well, using a different methodology. Using a visual assessment method rather than a verbal may bring about more accurate results so we will give this a try in the Fall
Learning OutcomesRefer to previous answers.

Changes

DetailsWe assessed two new SLOs as indicated previously. We worked on SLOs revision for the course outline and we collaborated more on this SLO process.

Tentative Future Plans

TermFall 2013
Activities
  • Revision of outcomes and assessment methods (measurements)
  • Analysis and discussion of assessment data and next steps
More DetailsRather than reassess these SLOs, I will be revising the course outcomes for this course and rewriting the course outline, as major revisions are necessary to both.
