Assessment DescriptionExams that measured students ability to do things like read maps and identify rocks and minerals.

Observation of students during group work and assessment of group projects.

Student evaluations at the middle and end of the semester to assess student "satisfaction" with the course and to gauge student understanding and difficulty of work.

Capstone project that was graded with a rubric where students analyzed a local environmental issue and made assessment based on their knowledge of environmental geology.

Data SummaryStudents had difficulty with the basic geology -- rocks and minerals, maps and math skills, but did well with the environmental and resource issues.
Analysis SummaryStudents should be able to look at an environmental issue and assess it from the perspective of an environmental geologist -- this was measured based on a rubric.
Next Steps PlannedThe course will be reorganized in Fall 2013 based on the reallignment of the lecture course.

New material will be added to labs to give students background to complete the lab assignments.
