More DetailsThis is a new experimental course staring Fall 2013. I have diverge from the course outline that was written last semester. After talking with an expert in the field, I am running this course like a environmental analysis company. The students have to decide how to run the company providing SOPs and logs. They will learn the tools necessary to focus on analyzing microbials in water as well as food. Conceptually, we will focus on learning more about the soil, air and water environments.

Additional Highlights

So far, we've had class for only 3 weeks. However, there's been some positive outcomes already. Since this is a small class setting, the students get a lot of leeway and time to discover how to perform certain techniques. e.g if making 1L liquid media but you have only 1L flasks, what is the best way to make the medi and autoclave it? They have to decide how best to work together to get things done.
