Assessment DescriptionAssessment conducted via essay questions on final exam such as (a) What do you think the two most important gender issues are in the world today? Why are these important issues? Are you optimistic that they can be addressed? and (b) What is female genital mutilation? Explain how the ideals of human rights and cultural relativism clash in regard to this issue?
Learning OutcomesOutcome H (Analyze current world events and issues that pertain to gender using an anthropological perspective) and Outcome I (Explain how the knowledge and perspective of anthropology can further an understanding of gender in Western society as well as in other societies and historical periods)

Data SummaryOnly 5/29 students earned 75% or less of the points on the final exam. Only one of those students earned less than 70% of the possible points.
Analysis SummaryOutcome achievement is indicated by the fact that more than 70% of the students earned more than 70% of the total possible points on the final exam.
Next Steps PlannedAssessment questions and expectations for student performance should be more challenging; this will be attempted for Spring 2014. Also, outcomes should be modified and updated to be fewer in number, more relevant to anthropology, and more consistent with current state of the field. This will be done as soon as possible.
