Assessment

Assessment Methods
  • Analysis of exam, quiz, or homework items linked to specific SLOs
  • Assignments based on rubrics (such as essays, projects, and performances)
Assessment DescriptionStudents were assigned to research and participate in a team debate on key public policy issues facing Asian Pacific American communities. Students researched a selected topic and were assigned to a team to collaboratively debate the selected policies.

Students were assessed the following criteria:

• Content: How well is the overall argument constructed? Is the argument supported by current facts, statistics, and examples? Is this support documented/cited in the speeches? Are the arguments well organized? Does the argument analyze the issue clearly?

• Collaboration: How well is the overall argument constructed and delivered as a team? How well does the team work together, coordinate, and build upon each other’s arguments (without simply repeating the same arguments, examples, etc.)? Is the team prepared to respond to counter-arguments and rebuttals?

• Presentation and Public speaking skills: Are the arguments presented clearly and persuasively? Is there evidence of thoughtful rehearsal and attention to public speaking skills?
Learning OutcomesOutcome 3: Interpret key public policies and how these policies impact today's Asian Pacific American Community.
