Data Summary95% of students performed at a "developing" or "accomplished" level on the critical paper assignment that was tailored to meet the designated SLO.

The majority of students responded at a "developing" or "accomplished" level on the midterm and final exam essay questions.
Analysis SummaryThe majority of students who completed the course performed at an adequate (or better) level on assignments directed towards the specific outcome under assessment this semester.
Next Steps PlannedI selected the most focused SLO for assessment of this film history course. (See SLO - A above)

Lectures, films, and assignments were refined and modified to target this specific SLO. Continuing refinement of this approach is warranted as is an increased focus on other SLO's.
Learning OutcomesSuggested: Continue assessment of SLO A, and increase focus on the following SLO's:

D. Demonstrate ability to discuss/write about films employing critical approaches that facilitate the expression of their own responses.

E. Value the cultural works of the past and present.

Changes

DetailsI revised course assessment content and methods by revising and updating lectures and by my selection of scheduled films. Assignments (critical paper topics and essay exam questions) were also modified to target course SLO's. I also discussed the SLO's in class.
Learning OutcomesSLO A was specifically targeted in lectures and assignemts:

Explore the history of motion pictures in their social and historic context during the second half of the 20th century, examining significant films and filmmakers and assessing their contributions.

The remaining SLO's were also addressed but not as systematically.

Additional Highlights

The SLO procedures helped provide clarification and increased focus on course objectives and outcomes. I think a majority of students benefited from this process.
