Data Sharing Methods

Face-to-face meetings

Data Summarya. The majority of students were able to correctly answer the question concerning chemical stability (16/18). The question required the student to choose which compound was aromatic.

b. Chemical reactivity was successfully answered by a majority of the class (13/18). The students were asked to apply a series of three reagents.
Analysis Summarya. The concept of aromaticity was successfully mastered by the majority of the class.

b. By following the course of a three-step reaction, students illustrated a working knowledge of the tools of organic chemistry.
Next Steps Planneda. The plans for improvement are not aimed at improving the data since this analysis indicates a successful outcome. Rather, a more detailed analysis concerning different types of stability would be beneficial.

b. In the case of reactivity, it would be helpful to address the more general applications of organic reactivity.
Learning OutcomesRefer to previous answer.

Changes

DetailsIn Spring of 2013, I added a number of additional assignments, which were done in class and aimed at addressing the specific needs of the students. Students worked with each other and the instructor on the areas identified after each exam. For example, students worked on spectroscopy in groups, promoting peer interaction.
Learning OutcomesALL.

Tentative Future Plans

TermFall 2013
Activities
  • Revision of outcomes and assessment methods (measurements)
  • Analysis and discussion of assessment data and next steps
  • Implementation of planned changes and reassessment
More DetailsA more comprehensive analysis of specific assessment questions concerning chemical reactivity, acidity/basicity, stability, and spectroscopy will be created.
