Data Summary71% of students were able to assess the scholarly or literary merit of a piece of writing submitted.
Analysis SummaryThough students overall were able to assess the literary or scholarly merit of a piece of writing, some still seemed to rely on more subjective and vague language to come to a conclusion about a piece of writing.
Next Steps PlannedWe have decided to change the assignment's rubric based on the imperfect wording of certain categories that we discovered during this process. We will also assign more critical analysis assignments throughout the semester to give students more practice before they are assessed. Moreover, we will conduct the assessment well before the end of the term to avoid a lack of participation from those students who are taking the class credit/no credit and have enough points to pass already.

We will revise the assignment portion of the course outline to reflect this change in curriculum.
Learning OutcomesStudents will be able to :

Analyze and critically discuss pieces submitted for publication in terms of literary and scholarly merit.
