Assessment

Assessment Methods
  • Assignments based on rubrics (such as essays, projects, and performances)
  • Direct observation of performances, practical exams, group work
  • Student self-assessments (such as reflective journals and surveys)
  • Student satisfaction surveys
  • Pre & post surveys or tests
  • Capstone projects or final summative assignments
  • Feedback from collaboration with other departments
  • External (outside CCSF) data (such as licensing exam and placement rates)
Assessment DescriptionThese assessments are ongoing. We report our outcome data on licensing exam results in December of each year. Thus far, we have 100% first time pass rate on the NREMT paramedic exam for the seven students who have taken it this year. We are in the process of summarizing clinical site and preceptor surveys for the semester but also summarize the total data in the Fall as part of CAAHEP accreditation reporting and CCSF Program review. Our advisory committee met on May 22, 2013 to review program goals, outcomes data, and new changes to our data management system which will be implemented in the Fall 2013 semester to better track clinical skills and patient contacts.

Data Summary100% NREMT first time pass rate for Spring 2013 semester

Clinical and preceptor data is favorable but surveys not summarized yet

One issue may exist with preceptor interrater reliability. CAAHEP suggested standardized training which we do, but not for all preceptors.

Team leadership now documented on CPPD daily evaluation forms thanks to changes made by the CPPD group
Analysis SummaryFISDAP online preceptor course taken by the Program Director and it meets all California state requirements for preceptors.
Next Steps PlannedFISDAP will improve data collection and free up time spent by Program Director on manual data collection and reporting; Perkins approved funding for FISDAP student accounts starting in Fall 2013 semester.

Analysis and discussion of assessment data and next steps

More DetailsNext Spring 2014 will mark the first full cycle of data collection of skills tracking (clinical, field and lab) using the FISDAP program. We will reassess the accuracy of the data using student input to improve the quality and also consider the effectiveness of the preceptor training program.
