Data SummarySpring Pre-survey results showed the number of correct answers on specific questions ranged from 20% to 71%.

The post-survey results showed the number of correct answers on specific questions ranging from 62%-85%. Percentage increase in pre vs. post survey results ranged from 3% to 36% with increases for each of the six questions.
Analysis SummaryOutcome achievement was evaluated based on a significant majority of students answering a given question correctly. For 3 out 6 questions the % of correct answers indicated a "significant majority" (77-85%) answering correctly, while the other 3 out of 6 questions showed a less significant majority answering correctly (62-69%).

In comparison with Fall 2012, Spring 2013 post-survey results showed improvements in the % of correct answers for 3 out of 5 questions that were included in both Fall surveys.
Next Steps PlannedInstructors decided to switch to a rubric for common assessment in the Fall Semester as not all instructors found the objective question survey useful. In addition, instructors will submit commentary/analysis regarding their particular sections during the next round of assessment. A form will be devised to facilitate this.
Learning OutcomesWe will focus Fall Semester on SLO "F" but as the process of assessment is refined all outcomes would potentially be supported.

Tentative Future Plans

TermFall 2013
Activities
  • Revision of outcomes and assessment methods (measurements)
  • Assessment (measurement) of outcomes
  • Analysis and discussion of assessment data and next steps
More DetailsAssessment data from Spring 2013 has already been discussed as we met 8/26/13. We will meet mid-semester to discuss possible revision of SLOs and may or may not analyze/discuss the Fall assessment data by the end of the semester. We are currently still refining the rubric to be used for SLO assessment this semester (Fall 2013). All history courses--including 12A--will also be conducting assessment (via a common rubric) of one PSLO.

Additional Highlights

There is definitely more dialog among instructors and more critical thinking about how to effectively assess SLOs.
