Assessment DescriptionImplemented course changes based on Fall 2012 assessments. Changes included the creation of a rubric to evaluate class shoots; the rubric was added to the updated course reader, and students were asked to fill it out as part of their final exam. The rubric also served as a reminder of best practices for all students on crew shoots.

Data SummaryMajority of the students used the new crew evaluation form. The documentary script template proved very helpful for those working on documentaries. Majority of the students found the online resume examples helpful.
Analysis SummaryThere was a marked improvement in the student crew shoots, with increased professionalism. Students were able to identify elements of crew participation that worked and those that hindered production.

Additional Highlights

All students participated in crew projects. Several crewed on a complicated student shoot involving a mansion in Portola Valley, period cars, costumes and special effects. The resulting film was screened at City Shorts Student Film Festival in May 2013 and won a prize for best production design.
