GRPH 101B - Advanced InDesign - Stage 5 - Chytrowski

Assessment

Assessment Methods
  • Student self-assessments (such as reflective journals and surveys)
  • Capstone projects or final summative assignments
Assessment DescriptionBoth the midterm and final projects were assessed, being capstone projects. Each project was assessed for a specific SLO, listed below, according to a rubric.
Learning OutcomesCreate forms using tables, tabs and paragraph rules.

Construct complex single- and multi-page documents containing text and images.

Data SummaryFor the SLO regarding tables (SLO1) , 94% of students were successful.

For the SLO regarding creating documents containing text and images (SLO2), 93% of the students were successful.
Analysis SummarySLO1: 60 points of the midterm were used to evaluated how well students could organize information using tabs or tables. We wanted a score of 85% or higher (51 points) to demonstrate success with this SLO.

SLO2: 120 points of the final project were used to evaluate the students ability to create complex documents containing text and image. There were four distinct phases involved in this process, each worth 25-35 points each. Successful achievement of this SLO required a score of 102 or higher (85% of 120).
Next Steps PlannedBoth SLO assessment results indicated no changes were needed to the instructional methodology for these SLOs. I would like to rewrite SLO1 to not include a "form" per say, but rather information design, which is a broader term.

Changes

DetailsI assessed two new SLOs, described previously, and began the process of revising the course outline to reflect more accurate SLOs in general.

Tentative Future Plans

TermFall 2013
Activities
  • Revision of outcomes and assessment methods (measurements)
  • Assessment (measurement) of outcomes
  • Analysis and discussion of assessment data and next steps
  • Implementation of planned changes and reassessment
More DetailsIn Fall 2013, I plan on assessing one SLO: Create and use a flexible, multi-page publication

grid. I plan on rewriting the course outline in the Spring 2014, and revising SLOs as needed to better reflect current practices.
