Data Analysis

Data Shared With

Instructors of the same course (at CCSF)

Data Sharing Methods
  • Face-to-face meetings
  • Email
Data Summary78% of students answered exam questions correctly and were also able to achieve a passing grade in the course.
Analysis SummaryOur criteria for success was that 70% or more students still registered at the end of the semester would achieve a passing grade in Accounting 10, and 70% ore more would show correct answers on quiz or exam questions designed to measure "a thorough understanding of the basic fundamentals of double-entry bookkeeping."
Next Steps PlannedWe agreed that our approach to achieving this SLO was successful for Fall 2012 and Spring 2013. The results of 77% for Fall 2012 and 78% for Spring 2013 were acceptable and consistent.

During our face-to-face meeting on August 2013, we agreed to assess a different SLO for Fall 2013, i.e.,

"When the student has completed the course he/she will be able to: Demonstrate an understanding of the terms (technical vocabulary) used in accounting."

We agreed that 70% or more students still registered in the course at the end of the semester should succeed in demonstrating this understanding, and they should also achieve a passing grade in the class.
Learning OutcomesRefer to previous answer.

Tentative Future Plans

TermFall 2013
Activities
  • Assessment (measurement) of outcomes
  • Analysis and discussion of assessment data and next steps, revise course outline
More DetailsWe agreed to re-write the Course Outline to modify the language and combine 5 Course Objectives into 4 Student Learning Objectives.

We plan to eliminate the requirement to use a practice set with business papers as this duplicates homework problems in the textbook and is an unnecessary expense to students who are already spending over $100 for the textbook and student workbook.

We also agreed to share teaching tools such as lesson plans and handouts once they are tested and proven useful by individual instructors.
