WELD 144 - Welding Processes - Stage 4 - Willis Beasley
Assessment
Assessment Methods | Direct observation of performances, practical exams, group work |
---|---|
Assessment Description | 1. Observing students following safety steps in setting up oxy-acetylene equipment for metal cutting operations 2. Observing students putting correct cutting tip on the cutting torch and setting the proper psi gas pressure settings for the acetylene and oxygen gases 3.observing students cutting and beveling 1/2 inch mild carbon steel plate 4. Observing students using hand held angle grinders to grind metal for welding 5. Observing students choose the proper electric arc welding electrode 6.observing students safely set correct welding amperage for 1/2 inch metal 7 Observing students welding the cut 1/2 inch metal pieces together |
Learning Outcomes | 1. Ability of students to safely set-up oxy-acetylene cutting and electric arc welding equipment for use with cutting and welding 1/2 inch carbon steel plate 2. Ability of students to safely use held angle grinders to grind cut metal pieces to prepare for electrode arc welding 3. Ability of students to electric arc weld 1/2 inch mild carbon steel pieces together |

Data Analysis
Data Shared With | Faculty and staff from related programs/departments |
---|---|
Data Sharing Methods | I the only instructor for this course. |
Data Summary | 100 %of my students were able to achieve the major learning outcomes |
Analysis Summary | Given the high rate of completion by the students in the welding course and the 100% outcome attainment, the course is working exceedingly well for the enrolled students. |
Next Steps Planned | This semester, I will include electric arc welding lab improvement projects as part of the overall WELD 144 oxy-acetylene and electric arc welding skill development. |
Learning Outcomes | Welding students will learn how to use their oxy-acetylene and electric arc welding skills to fabricate and weld actual work shop tables, cutting tables and an overhead awning structure. |
Tentative Future Plans
Term | Fall 2013 |
---|---|
Activities | Revision of outcomes and assessment methods (measurements) |
More Details | I plan to have students safely set-up both the oxy-acetylene cutting equipment and electric arc welding equipment for the cutting and welding of both sheetmetal and structural metal thicknesses. |
