Data SummaryA 9 question survey was given to all sections of PHYC 10 during final exams Fall 2013 to asses all SLOs. A total of 190 students were surveyed from 8 separate sections. The same survey was given in Spring 2013.

The results for SLO A were similar to the baseline survey results from Spring 2013 with 72% of students correctly answering the assessment question. The results from both round of assessments are encouraging.

The results for SLO B we saw an improvement over the baseline survey results from Spring 2013 with 60% of students correctly answering the assessment question but there is still room for improvement.

The results for SLO C were similar to the baseline survey results from Spring 2013 with 77% of students correctly answering the assesment question. We saw a slight improvement of 2% in the scores since the previous assessment. The results from both rounds of assessments are encouraging.

The results for SLO D were similar to the baseline survey results from Spring 2013 with 43% of students answering the assessment question correctly. We saw a slight improvement of 2% in the scores since the previous assessment. However it should be noted that the scores for both years of assessments show room for improvement. These results should serve as a guide to where we can make the most improvement.

We did not see an improvement in the scores for SLO E since the previous assessment. 59% of students answered the assessment question correctly, a decrease from the previous 65%. These results are several percentage points lower than the baseline survey results from Spring 2013 indicating an area where improvements could be made.

Overall we saw a decrease in the scores from the Spring 2013 for SLO F. The averages were between 51% and 77% for the 4 assessment questions that addressed this SLO. These results are relatively good but show us an area where we need to make improvements.
Planned ImprovementsThere was a significant change to the SLOs for PHYC 10 in Fall 2013. A meeting of all Physics 10/10L instructors was held on September 7th, 2013 to go over the new SLOs and discuss teaching strategies for Conceptual Physics. A meeting will be scheduled at the beginning of Fall 2014 to discuss the results of this assessment. As instructors become more aware of the new SLOs, and tailor their instruction to the new SLOs it is hoped that there will be an increase in scores from both Spring and Fall 2013.
