Improvement Details

DetailsIn the hopes of improving Student Learning Outcomes, the course curriculum pertaining to Outcomes B, E, & F was reorder within the teaching semester. The goal was to strengthen student understanding and application of lighting practices, both technically and aesthetically.

Assessment Methods

MethodsStudents final portfolios (containing the combined work of the entire semester) were evaluated for proficiency in both the creative and technical use and application of daylight, tungsten light and electronic strobe. A range of photography assignments were required and critiqued every week targeting SLO's B & E, and culminating in SLO F.

Data SummaryThe scoring rubric used showed that 72% of students rated "Excellent" averaged across six scoring criteria. 26.5% rated "Above Average", with only 1.5% at "Average". This indicates some positive progress when compared to the Spring 2013 rubric. Unfortunately, the cohort was quite small.
Planned ImprovementsIn order to test the validity of the changes made and to gather more data (and hopefully from a larger cohort), this evaluation will be repeated in Fall 2014.
