Improvement Details
Details | The modern digital camera is little more than a micro - computer. The changes it undergoes each year requires that both students and their instructions constantly change to reflect these changes. As a result, each SLO reporting cycle must also reflect these changes. As the camera and its supporting instruments and software become more intuitive, students tend to become less so - relying more on "what to do" to the exclusion of "why". And it is "why" that I am insisting on. For knowing why allows student to make changes when things go wrong. |

Assessment Methods
Methods | Students received regular "Lectures" on all necessary subject matter related to both the "Nature of Portraiture" and the "Technical Aspects" required to obtain those results. Quizzes were given virtually each week to confirm the extent of their learning. A "Midterm Exam" was also used, that represented 25% of their grade. A"Final Project Portfolio", also representing 25% of their grade, will be used to determine both their final grade and the extent of their learning. |

Data Summary | The primary concern that resulted from quizzes that were designed to inform me of the student's actual learning indicated that: students will need to be encouraged to want to know "why" they are doing something, not just "what". Beyond everything else, this is going to be my most critical task. |
Planned Improvements | My primary objective is to find ways to encourage students - "To want to know WHY things are happening" For only then will they be able to respond to issues that arise that are out of the ordinary area of "what-to-do". |

Activities | Continue to work with students on an "individual basis" to improve their outcomes. |
Details | When students are monitored on an individual basis, those who tend to be shy feel more comfortable coming to you and getting the help they need. I will continue to encourage students to do this. Secondly, group exercises will continue to be offered and increased, so that students learn how to work together. Art tends to be an individual thing, and learning how to work together is a critical aspect of our class as a result of the limited space available to us. |
Highlights | Students continue to produce outstanding photographic portraits in this class. One of their primary challenges is "learning to work together". We will continue to focus our efforts on improving this skill by offering non-shooting exercises that require "group participation". |
