Improvements

DetailsStudents working together in two and three-person teams improved as assignment tips were given on not only what to do, but how to do it "as a group". Additionally, some students were allowed to work "alone" because their schedule would not allow for joint-project work. This also was very helpful.

Another critical element was conducting exercises and lectures to improve student critical thinking. This was accomplished by using a series a series known as: "Connecting The Dots".

Assessment and Analysis Review

Assessment MethodsStudents were given quizzes to assure their understanding of the required equipment, they then were given a Midterm Exam, and their final consisted of Final Portfolio of image that outlined the subject of their choice. These final images represented 30% of their final grade.

Methods and techniques used were discussed with Co-Insturctor Nishihira.

Data and Analysis Summary40% of the students achieved a grade of 90% or higher; 40% were at 80% or higher, with only (1) failure.

The "Critical Thinking Lectures" were introduced to improve the primary weakness, which improved near the end of the semester, and that weakness was the inability to "tell a story" with each "image assignment. As the semester drew to an end, there was a noticeable improvement in this area.
Future ImprovementsThe "Critical Thinking Lectures" will be started earlier in the semester and the assessment mechanism will be their grades in the "Story-Telling" area of their images.

Future Plans

TermFall 2015 when the class runs again.
DetailsThis class has been successful. The primary need falls into the area of critical thinking, where students are capable of seeing connections to things that appear on the surface to be unconnected. As mentioned above these "Connecting The Dots" will aid greatly in doing this.

Students will continue to work in groups and alone when working in a group is not possible due to work schedules, etc.

Extra

DetailsThe items listed above will make all the difference.
