Improvements

DetailsStudent skill in the technical aspects of analog photography improved as a result of focused attention. Likewise creative and aesthetic aspects of image-making also rose qualitatively. Greater emphasis was placed on printing and matting processes, and matting was introduced earlier in the semester to afford more practice time before final projects. Assessment and feedback on assignments throughout the semester gave students more opportunities for improvement.

Assessment and Analysis Review

Assessment MethodsThe order of topic presentation was modified to move critical skills closer to the front end of the semester. A total of 4 assignments plus a comprehensive final project and a midterm exam were used to boost student skills as well as provide both peer and faculty feedback.

Data and Analysis Summary82% of students averaged Excellent across 4 elements, 10% averaged Above Average, 4% at Average. No students scored below Average, which was considered a successful SLO.
Future ImprovementsPending review and revision of PHOT 51 and PHOT 83, the PHOT 81A course outline should be revised to eliminate SLO items I, J, K, and L, with these topics migrating to PHOT 81B and PHOT 83. This will allow the remaining SLO topics to be strengthened and place more realistic goals on PHOT 81A. This course outline revision should be ready for Curriculum Committee approval during Fall, 2015.
