DetailsInstructors for POLS 2 (Comparative Government) decided to use a pre and post in-class essay Assessment Tool to assess the Explanation of Issues component of Critical Thinking.

This was a new and better assessment tool than was used in previous semesters.

Instructors also refined outcomes by using external data using the CCC C-ID Statewide Descriptor for this course.

Assessment Methods

This was a new and better assessment tool than was used in previous semesters.

The refined outcomes assessed were:

- Distinguish among regime types and their central features.

- Compare political systems, both in theory and actual country examples.

- Explain the impact of the regional, economic, historical and cultural factors on political institutions and behavior.

- Analyze political systems by using the comparative method.

Planned ImprovementsWe plan to continue to implement our more substantive Assessment Tools. We hope that the data with provide insight into what is working and what can be improved.

In particular, we will continue to evaluate how well students understand the concept of power.
