Improvement Details

DetailsWe revised our course learning outcomes to better align them with CSU standards for certification. New outcomes include more skills-based outcomes. We also updated our Methods of Evaluation for the course outline.

These changes will be submitted to the Curriculum Committee for approval in the Spring Semester.

We also piloted a rubric-based assessment of one of our old SLOs: SLO "F": "Identify, discuss and analyze the women's rights movement from 1890 to the present." Previously we have used a pre/post objective survey assessment.

Assessment Methods

MethodsAs stated above, we used a rubric-based assessment of SLO F: "Identify, discuss and analyze the women's rights movement from 1890 to the present." The rubric assesses both knowledge and analytical ability. One instructor asked students to: "identify and discuss verbally in a group" three "waves of feminism" and then had them "collaborate on their written, analytic response". The other instructor allowed some choice in individual topics on second-wave feminism as the focus of take-home essays.

Future Plans

TermSpring 2014
ActivitiesAssessment (measurement) of outcomes, Analysis and discussion of assessment data and next steps
DetailsOnly one section of this course will be offered in the Spring but Fall data will be discussed with the instructor of History 12A to collaborate on another rubric-based assessment of our revised CSLOs that will most-likely allow for reassessment of the knowledge area of the women's rights movement. Final discussion will take place at the beginning of the Spring semester.
HighlightsThe key achievements this semester are revising the CSLOs and inaugurating a rubric-based assessment. There is more collaboration among instructors and our meeting to revise CSLOs went smoothly.
