Improvement Details
Details | Students were given access and guided instruction on in-house printing early in the semester so that they could practice throughout the semester. Students compared this output with other bay area services in a detailed lab assignment early in the semester so that they could better see the nuances of printing and understand the variables of capture-process-output. |

Assessment Methods
Methods | I assessed the student learning outcome(s): SLO(s) chosen to assess: D. Demonstrate an understanding of the different output devices and produce prints using at least three types of printing processes. Primary Method of Assessment: ASSIGNMENT 1: CTI TARGET (Due Week 6) Objectives: Upload images to service bureaus or print on inkjet using proper ICC profiles. Compare output findings. Learn to see tone/color. Compare substrates and service bureaus. 1. Download the large file CTI target.jpg from the class server. ( A1_CTI_target) 2. Send two identical copies of the CTI target with appropriate embedded output color profiles to two different service bureaus . You may also print one on an inkjet printer using appropriate paper color profiles for your printer. You may work as a team (no more than two people) on this assignment. 3. Evaluate your two prints side by side in daylight balanced lighting conditions (V165). Write up a comparison using the evaluating CTI target image from the A1_CTI target folder on the server as a guide to discuss the 25 areas of the image. Present your findings in class on the due date. Use the handouts in the reading section to guide you if you get lost. Follow the CTI TARGET evaluation PDF to generate a written comparison. Turn In: 2 prints from two different service bureaus/printers in a plain envelop with your name, assignment, class etc and your typed evaluation spreadsheet. See student example Grading Rubric (100pts): Completed on-time and presented in class (25pts) CTI Targets show evidence of proper ICC profile (50pts) Evaluation of all 25 tone/color areas on spreadsheet + brief analysis of findings (25pts) |

Data Summary | Ruberic/Criteria Ruberic1: Completed on-time and presented in class (25pts) 1 (poor) 1(good) 8(excellent) Ruberic 2: CTI Targets show evidence of proper ICC profile (50pts) 1 (poor) 1(fair) 1(good) 7(excellent) Ruberic3: Evaluation of all 25 tone/color areas on spreadsheet + brief analysis of findings (25pts) 0 (poor) 1(good) 2(fair) 7(excellent) Conclusion Based on the results, students have a good understanding of beginning output and attaching proper ICC profiles for printing. Open lab time was severely cut this semester limiting open lab hours. Another issue is the lack of equipment – if there was a computer available in the print lab students could work even while classes are in session. |
Planned Improvements | I feel that the loop has been closed in this assessment. The outline for this course must be re-written to include updated course sequencing and curricula and will be done this semester. |
Program Review Link | Yes, the above future improvements require resources that will be requested during the next annual PROGRAM REVIEW cycle. Examples: additional staff, equipment, software, consulting services, etc. |
