Improvement Details

DetailsFall 2013 was first offering of revised version of this class, with different projects and rubrics that connect steps in projects to SLOs. Also, each project now connects to all SLOs, so students have multiple times to master skills & become proficient in each outcome. (see description in November 2013 SLO highlight).

Data Summaryrepetition of skills (SLOs) in all class projects reinforced students' mastery of certain key apparel construction concepts. Although pass rates, grade distribution and attrition rates are consistent with previous years, students seemed to have improved the critical thinking aspects of sewing (reducing waste, creating best construction sequences, recognizing different applications of various techniques). In other words, making sure that all 6 course SLOs are taught in all the projects has allowed students to become smarter stitchers. Only repetition and practice can improve their actual skill level.
Planned Improvementscontinue to improve teaching handouts and samples.
